In the world of manufacturing, the importance of regular maintenance for machinery cannot be overstated. This is particularly true for laser cutting machines, which play a pivotal role in enhancing production efficiency. Daily upkeep is essential to maintain the stability and optimal operation of these sophisticated devices. Experts emphasize that adopting the correct maintenance practices can significantly boost the working efficiency of laser cutting machines, thereby extending their lifespan and reducing operational costs.

Proper maintenance not only ensures that the machines run smoothly but also saves businesses money in the long run. By investing time in routine inspections, cleaning, and necessary repairs, manufacturers can avoid costly downtime and enhance productivity. As the industry continues to evolve, understanding and implementing effective maintenance strategies for laser cutting machines will be crucial for companies aiming to maximize profits and remain competitive in the market. With these insights, stakeholders in the manufacturing sector are encouraged to prioritize machine maintenance as a key component of their operational strategy.

1. Cleaning of dust removal device

When the laser cutting machine dust removal device is used for a long time, a lot of solid dust will accumulate in the fan, causing loud noise, odor and poor exhaust.

Solution: Turn off the power, remove the air inlet and outlet ducts on the fan, clean the dust inside, invert the fan, pull out the fan blades, clean the solid dust and restore the installation.

2. Laser cutting machine maintenance

Clean the dirt at the exhaust vents regularly to ensure the actual exhaust effect.

Regularly maintain the filter device in the air supply and promptly remove the water and dirt in the filter device.

Regularly check whether the screws of the limit switch support frame and the impact block support frame are loose.

Regularly clean the dust on the exhaust fan filter of the electrical cabinet to ensure good ventilation and facilitate heat dissipation of internal electrical components.

After the machine tool is installed, use it for a period of time, check the level of the machine tool and make corresponding adjustments to ensure the precision of laser cutting. Every week, be sure to check the grease filling status of the X-axis slide rail and ball screw, Y-axis slide rail and ball screw, and Z-axis slide rail and ball screw to maintain the lubrication of each moving component and extend the service life of the X, Y, and Z-axis slide rails and ball screws.

Depending on the natural environment of the workshop, check the pollution status of the reflector and the focusing mirror surface regularly (at least once a month), and replace the damaged optical glass to ensure its service life.

3. Maintenance of laser generator of laser cutting machine

The laser generator should be maintained before daily startup:

Check that the cooling circulating water pressure is maintained between 3.5 and 5 Bar.

Check the temperature of the cooling circulating water and adjust it to the water temperature specified by the laser generator.

Check the oil level in the laser generator mechanical pump. If it is insufficient, add more oil.

Check whether there are any leakage in the oil channel, water channel, and air supply of the laser generator, and whether the mechanical pump, resonator, pneumatic components, and three-way joints are damaged.

4. Chiller water change and cleaning

The quality and temperature of circulating water directly affect the service life of the laser and cutting head. Note: Chiller maintenance must be performed at least 5 minutes after the chiller power is turned off to avoid the risk of water spray and electric shock. Weekly inspection of the filter and heat sink, clean the dust and foreign matter on them; check the water tank level, and replenish water in time when the level is low; remove dust and dirt from the outside of the equipment. Quarterly inspection and replacement of the medium (distilled water); check and clean the dirt in the tank to ensure good cooling effect; PP cotton must be replaced and the resin tank must be replaced.

5. Cleaning and refueling of machine tool guide rails and racks

Guide rails and linear axes are one of the core components of laser cutting machines, which play a guiding and supporting role. To ensure processing accuracy, the guide rails and linear axes must have high guiding accuracy and good motion stability. Laser cutting machines produce a lot of corrosive dust and smoke during processing. These smoke and dust are deposited on the surface of guide rails and linear axes for a long time, which has a great impact on the processing accuracy of the equipment. The gear rack needs to be maintained every quarter.

Open the dust cover to clean the oil and foreign matter on the rack and guide rail. It is recommended to use diesel to clean the guide rail box rack, and then move the machine tool to wash out the foreign matter inside the slide. After cleaning, wipe off the excess diesel and apply a layer of gear lubricant. Regularly check whether the lubricant in the equipment oiler is below the alarm line, and add lubricant in time to avoid long-term lack of oil, which will cause equipment wear and change in accuracy.

6. Cleaning of machine tool dust, support bars, etc.

The dust inside the machine tool needs to be cleaned every week. Use an air gun to clean the dust cover, drag chain, electrical cabinet and sheet metal inside the machine tool. Clean the air path components inside the cutting head cover and the cutting head. Note that it is recommended to use a lower air pressure or blow the dust away from a longer distance when cleaning the cutting head. Clean the cutting head waste and iron slag on the guide rails of the workbench to reduce chain problems when the equipment exchanges the table surface.

Clean the iron slag of the support bar regularly. Too much iron slag on the work surface will cause the plate to be placed unevenly, causing shaking during cutting, and will cause the stability of the cut plate and slag on the back. When the support table is greatly worn out after long-term cutting, a limit alarm will appear. It is recommended to make the support table in advance and replace it in time.
